Terms of Service

These terms are an agreement between you and The Bit You Missed (“we”, “us”, “our”). By creating an account or using the app, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use The Bit You Missed.

Who can use The Bit You Missed

You must be at least 16 years old to use The Bit You Missed. By using the app you confirm that you meet this requirement and that the information you provide is accurate.

Your account

You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity that happens under your account. Let us know promptly if you believe your account has been compromised.

Plans, billing & cancellation

What you pay for is the catalogue, whole. One subscription covers every film in the app — there is no free tier and nothing is sold per film. Films we have timed against a subtitle track carry a tighter margin, so less of the log is held back; films we have not timed yet still give you the whole log, with a wider margin, and the app labels them on screen. There are two plans and no one-off purchase. Payments are handled by Stripe.

• Monthly (99p a month). Renews automatically each month until you cancel. You authorise us, through Stripe, to charge your payment method for each renewal.
• Season Ticket (£9.99 a year). The same access, paid twelve months at a time and renewing annually until you cancel.
• Cancelling. You can cancel either plan at any time from your account settings. Your access continues until the end of the period you have already paid for, and you will not be charged again after that.
• Refunds. Because access is a digital service you can use immediately, your statutory 14-day right to cancel ends once the service has begun, to the extent permitted by law. We do not otherwise refund partial periods, but nothing in these terms limits your rights under the UK Consumer Rights Act 2015 or other applicable law. If a recap was plainly broken, tell us and we will put it right.
• Price changes. We may change pricing. We will give you reasonable notice before a change affects you, and it will only take effect at your next renewal.

Which films are available

Coverage is not universal and never will be. Scene logs land 24 hours after release, and only once we have a sourced account of their scenes. Some films are covered in less detail than others, and some recaps stop before the film does — where that is true, the app labels it. We may add or remove films at any time; whatever is in the catalogue is part of your plan.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• copy, scrape, bulk-download, republish, or resell the recaps, or use them to build or train another product or dataset;
• access the service by automated means, or share your account credentials;
• attempt to disrupt the service, gain unauthorised access to it, or reverse engineer it;
• use the app in any way that breaks the law.

Please also follow the rules of the cinema you are in. Nothing here encourages you to use a phone in an auditorium, and the app is built to be read on your feet, in a corridor, in a few seconds.

Our content and other people’s rights

The recaps are written by us and remain ours. Film titles, artwork, trademarks, and the films themselves belong to their respective owners; we are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any studio, distributor, or cinema chain. Where a recap draws on a source that requires attribution, the app names that source on the film’s page, and you must keep that attribution with any use we have permitted.

Copyright & takedown requests

We respect intellectual property rights. If you believe material on The Bit You Missed infringes your copyright, send a notice to theBitYouMissed@outlook.com that includes: identification of the work, a link to the material, your contact details, and a statement that you believe the use is unauthorised. We will respond to valid notices and remove infringing material.

Availability & changes to the service

We work to keep The Bit You Missed available and reliable, but we provide it “as is” and may change, suspend, or discontinue features at any time.

Disclaimers

To the fullest extent permitted by law, The Bit You Missed is provided without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, accurate, complete, or suitable for any particular purpose, and in particular we do not warrant that a recap will match the showing you are in.

Limitation of liability

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be excluded by law. Subject to that, we are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss — including a spoiled film — and our total liability to you is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or £50.

Indemnity

You agree to indemnify us against claims, losses, and costs arising from your breach of these terms or of any law.

Termination

You can stop using The Bit You Missed and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these terms. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination — such as ownership, disclaimers, and limitation of liability — will continue to apply.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above, and for significant changes we will provide a more prominent notice. Continuing to use the app after changes take effect means you accept the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Scotland, and the courts of Scotland have jurisdiction, without affecting any mandatory consumer protections available to you where you live.
